    Do you itch a lot due to sweating? Here’s how to stop

    Scratching may provide temporary relief, but it actually worsens the itching by irritating the skin. If you’re tired of dealing with this discomfort, here are some effective ways to stop itching and find instant relief.

    Understanding Prickly Heat

    Prickly heat, also known as miliaria, sweat rash, or heat rash, is a common condition exacerbated by high temperatures and humidity. When sweat gets trapped in the skin, it forms tiny red blisters that are extremely itchy. Prickly heat can occur anywhere on the body, but it is most commonly seen in areas like underarms, groin, armpits, feet, back, back of the neck, hands, chest, and abdomen. Excessive sweating, being overweight, engaging in physical activity, and wearing tight or warm clothes can all contribute to the development of heat rash.

    To alleviate this condition, you can rely on natural home remedies and proper skincare.

    Home Remedies for Quick Relief

    1. Multani mitti (Fuller’s Earth)

    Multani mitti is an excellent product for opening up the pores and smoothing the skin. Create a paste by mixing some fuller’s earth with a few drops of rose water. Apply it to the affected areas and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing it off. For best results, use this paste daily.

    2. Chandan or Sandalwood Powder

    Sandalwood powder is known for its antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Take some pure sandalwood powder or grind fresh sandalwood and mix it with rose water. Apply this mixture to the rash and let it dry. Once dry, wash it off with cold water. Sandalwood powder provides relief from burning and pricking sensations.

    3. Oatmeal

    Oatmeal has long been used as a traditional remedy for soothing skin inflammation caused by heat rash. Add finely ground oatmeal to your bathwater and soak the affected area for about thirty minutes. Afterward, gently pat the area dry. This practice helps alleviate dryness and itching. Repeat this two to three times a week.

    4. Cornstarch

    Cornstarch is gentle on the skin and can help calm irritation caused by sweat rash. Make a paste using cornstarch and apply it to the affected area. Allow it to dry before rinsing it off with cold water. Incorporate this treatment into your daily routine.

    5. Potato

    The humble potato slice can provide instant relief to itchy skin. Chill a potato slice in the refrigerator and place it on the affected area for 15 minutes. Rinse the area with cool water afterward. Repeat this process two to three times a day.

    Remember, before trying any home remedy, ensure that the rash is not spreading. If it is, consult your doctor immediately. Additionally, it’s always a good idea to perform a patch test before using any home remedy to test for potential allergies.

    Additional Tips to Reduce Itching

    In addition to these home remedies, here are some tips to help alleviate itching:

    • Stay in cooler conditions.
    • Take cool showers.
    • Opt for loose cotton clothing.
    • Use lightweight bedding.
    • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
    • Apply a homemade cold compress using a towel or a plastic bag.
    • Avoid body care or soaps with strong fragrances.
    • Steer clear of skin care products that contain mineral or petroleum oil.
