Boost Your Immunity with the Power of Black Pepper

By NCVC Staff | Published on Oct 09, 2023

Black pepper has been a staple in the Indian diet for centuries. It not only adds flavor to food but also provides numerous health benefits. Known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, black pepper helps keep infections at bay and provides relief from wounds and swelling. Ayurvedic experts consider it one of the best herbs for boosting immunity due to its high vitamin C content, which naturally enhances immune system function and acts as a powerful antibiotic.

According to research published in the journal Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, black pepper contains piperine, a plant-based compound that is rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants fight harmful free radicals in the body and help regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Easy Ways to Include Black Pepper in Your Diet

If you’re looking to give your immune system a much-needed boost, here are three simple ways to incorporate black pepper into your daily diet:

    1. Tomato and Black Pepper Soup

Tomatoes are packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, E, and beta-carotene, all of which help prevent free-radical activity and reduce oxidative stress that can weaken your immune system. By combining tomatoes with black pepper, you not only get a comforting and warming soup but also a powerful immunity enhancer.

    • 2 to 3 medium tomatoes
    • 1 tsp crushed black pepper
    • 3-4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
    • 1-inch ginger (crushed)
    • 1-inch cinnamon stick
    • 20 gms onions, chopped
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 tsp oil

    1. Boil the tomatoes, ginger, cinnamon, and crushed black pepper in 250 ml of water.
    2. Once the tomatoes become pulpy, allow the boiled stock to cool. Mash it and strain the boiled and mashed stock.
    3. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the garlic and chopped onions until golden brown on a slow flame.
    4. Add the tomato stock and salt to taste. Allow it to boil for a few minutes.
    5. Serve the soup hot with a sprinkle of black pepper powder and garnish with mint leaves.

    2. Black Pepper Tea

Kickstart your metabolism, fight indigestion, manage weight, and boost your immunity with a simple cup of black pepper tea.

    2. Add the crushed black pepper, lemon juice, and freshly chopped ginger to the water.
    3. Allow the mixture to steep for about five minutes.
    4. Strain the tea into a mug and consume it warm.

    3. Black Pepper Kadha
